Inkshot

Inkshot is a screen capture, annotation and screen recording app for Windows, developed by Rafael Fernandes, trading as Comwil (Feldweg 17, 8134 Adliswil, Switzerland), who is responsible for the data described here. In short: everything you capture stays on your computer, and we receive no data from the app.

Effective: October 12, 2026

Your captures

Screenshots, screen recordings, the annotations you add and exported files are saved in the Pictures\Inkshot folder on your computer, or wherever you choose to save them. Inkshot keeps its settings (such as your chosen microphone and frame rate) in its own application data folder. None of this is uploaded to us or to anyone else.

Inkshot only puts a capture on the clipboard when you ask it to (Copy, or after grabbing text). Uninstalling Inkshot leaves your Pictures\Inkshot folder in place so you keep your captures; you can delete it yourself at any time.

Screen access

When you start a capture (with the Print Screen hotkeys, the tray menu or the app), Inkshot takes a picture of your screens and reads the position and title of open windows so you can click a window to capture it. This happens only on your computer and only when you start a capture. Scrolling capture sends mouse-wheel input to the area you selected so it can stitch the page together.

Microphone

Inkshot uses your microphone only while you record a video and have selected a microphone for that recording. The audio is saved inside the video file on your computer. You can record without a microphone, and you can withdraw microphone access at any time in Windows Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone.

Grab text (OCR)

Text recognition uses the OCR engine built into Windows and runs entirely on your computer. The recognised text is shown to you and copied to your clipboard; it is not sent anywhere.

Purchases

Inkshot is distributed through the Microsoft Store. Inkshot Pro is sold as a Microsoft Store subscription or one-time purchase. Microsoft processes the payment, your billing details and subscription management under the Microsoft Privacy Statement. To know whether Pro is unlocked, Inkshot asks the Microsoft Store on your computer for the licence status of its add-ons. We receive sales and payout reports from Microsoft, but no payment details from the app.

What we receive

Inkshot contains no analytics, advertising or tracking, and it does not contact any Comwil server. Microsoft may provide us with aggregated, anonymous statistics about installs, crashes and sales through its developer dashboard, as it does for every Microsoft Store app; this is governed by your Windows diagnostic and privacy settings. If you email us for support, we use your message and email address only to answer you.

Third-party software

Inkshot records and converts videos with a bundled copy of FFmpeg, licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3 (the licence text is included as FFMPEG-LICENSE.txt in the installation folder). FFmpeg runs locally and sends no data. Its source code is available from ffmpeg.org, and the exact build configuration from github.com/BtbN/FFmpeg-Builds.

Your rights

Under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection and, where it applies to you, the GDPR, you may ask us for access to, correction of or deletion of any data we hold about you, such as support emails. Write to [email protected]. You may also complain to your data protection authority.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version is published here with a new effective date.
